Sweet!

I mentioned to my dad the other day that the meadow foam on the neighboring farm is currently in full bloom.
Just a few days earlier I watched as they unloaded several Bee hives at the top of the hill.

For several years my dad has done some Bee keeping of his own. We profit from his hobby with free raw honey every year.

I asked him if he would like to bring some of his Bee's up for the year. He happened to have two hives that needed to be moved, so he loaded them up and brought them to our house.

Good thing he wears a Bee keepers suite because those honey Bee's were MAD.

I stood back and zoomed in as far as I could.

My dogs wanted to see what was going on and didn't listen when I called them.
Poor Rocket, our dachshund, the Bee's went right for him.
Apparently they attack black, because bears and skunks often break into the hives and they are dark colored. He leaped into my arms and buried his head. Poor little weenie dog.

While putting the hive together my dad realized that he didn't put screens in one section.

This meant the Bee's made a big mess of honey comb with no good way to get the honey out.

Instead of wasting it all, dad scraped it out and put it into a big bowl for us.

For the last week we have enjoyed the sweet treat of honey.

Bug lit up to see a huge bowl of it. For the past week we have spent time chewing on small pieces of honeycomb and spitting out the wax.

WOW! What a fabulous post - I am so envious that you have honey bee's at your backdoor! The girls are learning all about bugs this Spring - we released over 4800 Lady Bugs (mass infestation of aphids) and they had to get an hourly report as to what they were doing. I can only imagine what would happen if we had hives - TOO COOL, Autumn!

What an amazing post with accompanying pictures.

That's such a cool hobby to have...and the honey is definitely a perk. In these parts (city) raw honey is a delicacy.

oooooooo what a fun post Autumn. :) I love it. :) we love honey. AMy has just looked into getting honeycomb, as she has read a lot about it helping build up the resistance to pollen. She has bad allergies.

Good to see your dad. I am thinking of him and you often.

I love your blog... it's not black and I can read stuff on it... YAY!!! I love honey so much but the only insect I don't like is bees. They scare the poop out of me... LOL. I have never had honey right out of the comb like that but it sounds so delicious. I love the photos on here.... beautiful!!

Awesome pictures! I love fresh, raw honey, but I don't think that I've ever had it THAT fresh!
